Profile


Charles Schiffer is a Professor of Medicine and oncology and the leader of the multidisciplinary leukemia/lymphoma group at the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute, Wayne State University, in Detroit, Michigan. His research interests focus on chemotherapy resistance and the therapy and biology of leukemia and other blood disorders. Schiffer has won numerous awards, including the Good Housekeeping Magazine, The Best Cancer Specialists in the U.S., listing for 1992 and has been listed in Best Doctors in America for many years. Schiffer has been on the editorial board of numerous journals and has authored 250 articles on cancer and hematology in peer-reviewed journals, written 86 book chapters and edited 6 books. He has been the chair of the Leukemia Committee of the Cancer and Leukemia Group B and the oncologic Drug Advisory Committee of the FDA, and served on the Medical oncology Board of the American Board of Internal Medicine. Schiffer received his B.A. (1968) from Brandeis University, Waltham, Massachusetts, and his M.D. from the New York University School of Medicine (New York, New York) in 1972. He finished an Internal Medicine internship and residency at the New York University School of Medicine in 1971 and was Chief Resident until 1972.
